Marchweeke Farm is home to a wide diversity of flora and fauna. The wide hedgerows, the River Dalch, copses, pasture and an area of marshland all provide specific habitats supporting a wide range of wildlife. With the assistance of the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group we aim to enhance the diversity of the flora and fauna on the farm by employing husbandry methods that promote diversity and by implementing initiatives that help protect rarer species.

For example we leave areas of longer grass to encourage higher populations of voles that are so important in the barn owl’s diet. The farm has numerous trees and shrub species within the wide hedges but has fewer mature trees. Our objective over the next years is to establish more specimen trees and to monitor what we hope will be an increase in the fauna, particularly the bird populations.

When you buy produce from Marchweeke Farm you support the environment through; reduced transportation; environmentally sensitive farming methods and specific initiatives to promote wildlife habitats.
