At Marchweeke Farm we aim to turn the clock back to a time
when produce was all grown locally with its' own distinctive flavour.
We place great emphasis on the taste of our produce and in order
to achieve this we rear some of the older, traditional breeds of
livestock that have meat with greater succulence and flavour provided
by the additional "marbling".
The older traditional breeds are also more suited to less intensive
management with higher reliance on grazing pasture rather than high
supplementation with compound feeds. The eating quality of Marchweeke
Farm meats are also enhanced by adopting the traditional "hanging"
method whereby natural enzymes make the meat more tender.
The farm is owned and managed by Simon and Julie Preece who specialise
in the production of traditionally-reared lamb, pork, beef, chicken
and free range eggs. All livestock is reared to high standards of
animal welfare. Marchweeke Farm is a small family farm situated
in the rolling Devon countryside to the west of Tiverton. The farm
extends to eighty acres of fertile pasture sloping down to the River
Dalch.
The farm was purchased in 2001 and since that time no artificial
fertilisers or pesticide sprays have been applied on the fields.
We aim to enhance the diversity of the flora and fauna on the farm
either by employing husbandry methods that promote diversity or
by specific initiatives that help protect rarer species.
